Fleming Verandas – Glass Rooms, Verandas and Awnings

Victorian architecture may be known for its ornate detailing and classic charm, but today that style is being reimagined in new and exciting ways. Nowhere is this change more evident than in the design of the veranda. Dispensing with much of the exaggerated embellishments that defined the Victorian era, the attractively understated design of the modern traditional and Victorian-style veranda lends a tastefully eclectic look to both modern and period homes.

So, what exactly is a modern traditional or Victorian-style veranda? In its simplest form, a veranda is a covered outdoor living space that extends from a building’s exterior and are useful for a variety of purposes, including al-fresco dining and outdoor entertaining, and quiet relaxation. A traditional, or Victorian-style veranda, often featured intricate iron scrollwork, ornate balustrades, and detailed mouldings that afforded them a stylish, glamorous aesthetic. Our glass verandas retain these classic elements, simplified, and with a contemporary twist to suit modern tastes. Handmade in Britain, our elegant glass verandas are all made-to-measure, creating a unique addition to your property.

Modern traditional, and Victorian-style verandas, are fashioned with corner-contoured leg profiles, avoiding the more contemporary square-cornered posts. The lower leg sections on these verandas have rounded period bollard bases, a staple of the traditional veranda, perfect for customers with a period property, or who want to create that look. These glass verandas can be enhanced to have a more Victorian-style aesthetic with ‘antique’ ornate castings at the leg tops, and ornamental gallows brackets that are secured to the posts and the roof framework. Omitting these features can create a simpler, yet equally elegant Edwardian style veranda, perfect for both period and modern homes.

One key element of the modern traditional veranda is the choice of materials. Traditionally, wrought iron and wood were used to create an outdoor garden space, and these still remain popular choices today. This range, however, incorporates more contemporary materials, such as aluminium and glass, even concrete, to create a garden glass veranda that blends old and new together to create a unique, refreshing look. Careful choice of colours, whether one of our standard RALs or a custom colour, can dramatically change the look and feel of our modern traditional verandas, allowing you to tailor your outdoor living space to either stand out or tone into your existing outdoor aesthetic.

Traditional and Victorian verandas offer the same benefits as the modern veranda, while bringing a unique stylistic element to the property. They provide a low-maintenance outdoor living space that will not rust, degrade, or require regular treatment with the unpredictable British weather, offering protection against they elements, they are usable all year round. They are versatile structures that enhance the value and aesthetic appeal of your property, and can even help cut household bills. The traditional and Victorian ranges are seeking a glass veranda roof only, as their ornate leg profiles and gallows brackets are not suitable for including glass walls or doors along the front, or width section. That said, it is possible to include fixed glass side walls for the left and right.

Modern Victorian-style verandas are a timeless and stylish addition to any modern or period home, offering beautiful blend of classic elegance and contemporary design that adds charm and character, whether you’re looking to create a cosy nook, or a stunning outdoor entertaining space. A veranda is the perfect and most versatile option that can help create your outdoor oasis, withstanding the test of time and attracting potential buyers if, or when, it comes time to sell.
